School Courtyard Garden in Kew
School Courtyard Garden in Kew
The courtyard is surrounded by classrooms back and front, with a glass covered arcade for the children to move between classes. Designed for only the staff to enjoy, the design was inspired by the artist Mondrian, renowned for his geometric blocks of colour. Appropriate, as the art class room overlooks the garden. A pleached hornbeam hedge screens the open boundary with the neighbours and is the backdrop for a large solid concrete bench. Other small walls and benches are interspersed through the garden with evergreen structure provided by large blocks of Buxus and Ilex crenata along with domes of beech. Height is added with a beautiful multi-stem specimen of Cornus kousa ‘China Girl’.
